Rolex model Explorer II Freccione Maxi-Dial ref. 216570-0002 full set from 2011. This watch, produced by Rolex since April 2011 under the name Rolex Explorer II Stainless Steel / Black, is the ultimate evolution of the model first launched in 1971 with reference 1655, nicknamed Explorer II Steve McQueen Freccione.
The all-terrain 42 mm Rolex watch designed for explorers and speleologists. Powered by the automatic caliber 3187 with date function, officially chronometer-certified by the COSC in Geneva. This anti-magnetic movement, an evolution of the previous 3185 caliber, features a fine adjustment balance wheel, a blue Parachrom hairspring, and Paraflex shock absorbers. The 100-meter water-resistant case is made of 904L Oystersteel.
The dial is designed for 12-hour and 24-hour time reading, with a large orange GMT hand (Freccione) independently adjustable for displaying a second time zone on the fixed day/night bezel. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with date window under Cyclops magnifier. Large stainless steel bracelet, adjustable via added links, fitted with a tool-free adjustable Easylink deployant clasp and safety locking system.
This model, designed by Rolex for users evolving in environments different from their usual settings, allows dual-time display over a 24-hour scale without requiring any visual reference to distinguish day from night. Its robust and compact case is worn close to the wrist, and the use of a fixed bezel flush with the case avoids the sharp edges seen on rotating bezels found on diving models like the Submariner.
Its Twinlock screw-down crown, protected by crown guards, enhances the waterproofing of this automatic watch, which boasts a power reserve of over 48 hours. Finally, the adjustable bracelet—with the ability to add or remove links—and its deployant clasp with comfort extension let the user adapt the watch at any time without tools, whether worn under or over technical clothing, regardless of the situation.
