Omega Speedmaster Racing chronograph – special limited edition released by Omega in February 1997 in New York to celebrate its designation as the official timekeeper of the CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams), the U.S. professional racing teams championship. This organization, created in 1979 by the USAC (United States Auto Club), would later be succeeded by the Indy Racing League (IRL) for Formula 1 races and NASCAR for events like the Indy500 or Daytona Beach.
The Omega Speedmaster Reduced chronograph – 1997 edition featuring the CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) logo. Blue dial with 3 subdials, marked with luminous indexes inside a tachymeter bezel. Stainless steel case with two pushers and screw-down case back, powered by the automatic Omega calibre C-1143 (47 jewels), reinforced with an ETA 2892-A2 movement module for enhanced shock and vibration resistance.
This technical design allows for a 42-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Slightly smaller than the classic Moonwatch Speedmaster, its case dimensions of 39 x 45 mm and thickness of only 12.5 mm make it easy to wear under the sleeve of a racing suit or jacket without discomfort. Its Omega stainless steel bracelet, 18 mm wide at the lugs, full-size 22 cm long, with a compact 16 mm folding clasp, completes this highly compact yet robust setup, adjustable even for larger wrists. Notably, this bracelet was favored over the leather version found on the red or yellow "Michael Schumacher" models, due to its superior resistance to external elements, fluid and fuel splashes, and the extreme temperatures encountered during races.
