Vintage Breitling Navitimer A30022 chronograph, pilot’s edition "Spanish Patrulla Águila", dated 1995. This was the first 3 ATM water-resistant Navitimer model created by Breitling as part of a series paying tribute to elite military aerobatic teams. A limited edition of 1,000 pieces, this watch embodied the brand's commitment to military air forces. This strategic direction was set by Breitling president Ernest Schneider, who spearheaded the brand’s revival in the 1980s after acquiring it. An aviation enthusiast himself, Schneider reconnected Breitling with the DNA of its golden years (see the article on "The rebirth of Breitling" on the "Watch Brands History" page of the Mostra-Mag).
This watch features the Breitling in-house caliber 30, a rhodium-finished movement with 38 jewels. Based on the ETA 2892-A2, it offers a 42-hour power reserve. The three-register chronograph movement is equipped with an Incabloc shock protection system for durability under stress and acceleration. This high-precision movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The dial is styled after the colors of Spain’s elite aerobatic team “Patrulla Águila,” based at San Javier AFB near Cartagena, which shares its facilities with the Spanish Air Force Academy “Academia General del Aire.” The team flies CASA C-101 aircraft and is the only unit to use yellow smoke in its displays. Known for their inverted loop and formation landing maneuvers, the team was founded in 1985 and its pilots are typically selected from Air Force Academy instructors.
The watch has a blue dial with the squadron’s logo at the top center, also engraved on the case back. The three chronograph subdials include inscriptions of “Patrulla Águila,” the iconic winged Breitling logo, and the model reference (the latter two appear in the lower subdial).
This model is in near-new condition and fitted with its original blue strap and deployant clasp. The serial and model reference numbers are engraved on the case back. Part of the Navitimer 92 series, this automatic and water-resistant watch is a modern take on the classic Old Navitimer. Its more compact size offers improved comfort and versatility, making it suitable for both casual and dress wear.
