Specificities
Rolex Sea-Dweller Vintage Triple Six from 1984. A diving watch with automatic movement, date display, black dial, and unidirectional rotating bezel. This model carries the nickname "Triple Six", a reference to its reference number 16660, produced by Rolex between 1983 and 1989.
This collector’s Rolex is the first Sea-Dweller to feature a sapphire crystal. Another notable improvement is a newly designed decompression "Big Valve", larger than its predecessor. Stronger and more resistant, this valve is placed on the left flank of a resized 40 mm case. The result: water resistance rated at 1,220 meters or 4,000 feet.
This rare transitional model was introduced after the production of the Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665 ended. The example presented here is one of the earliest 16660 references manufactured by Rolex. It can be identified by its serial number, original warranty certificate (signed and stamped by a French Rolex dealer), and its matte dial with painted indices—a distinctive dial used on the first series of the 16660 during a three-year transitional period that ended in 1986. From that year onward, the Sea-Dweller 16660 would come equipped with a glossy dial, like its successors. Movement: Rolex 3035, officially chronometer-certified by COSC.
This Sea-Dweller, in perfect collector’s condition, is a transitional model that has become extremely hard to find. Its value is enhanced by its excellent condition and original papers… a true invitation to explore turquoise seas.
