Rolex Oysterdate Precision with date function in steel. Vintage watch from 1966, Rolex reference 6694, featuring a screw-down crown and a silver dial with gold-colored indexes and Rolex insert. A classic collection model, with gold hands enhanced with tritium. Its modern—yet not contemporary—appearance remains appreciated to this day and makes it one of the most frequently seen models among vintage enthusiasts.
A traditional, robust, and particularly discreet watch, its clean and efficient lines make it a favorite travel companion. Its understated and dressy look makes it ideal for a casual-chic or heritage style, perfectly aligned with the vision of Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, who wanted to create a timepiece for businessmen that would be sober, elegant, and robust enough to be passed down. Developed around a 34 mm Oyster case, the watch houses a manual-winding Rolex movement calibre 1215 (as indicated by the “Precision” marking at the bottom of the dial). The screw-down crown once earned it a waterproof designation, though due to its age, water exposure is now strongly discouraged. A date window topped with a Cyclops magnifier lens elegantly completes the ensemble.
Often preferred to its sister model released during the same period—the Oyster Precision 6426 without a date indicator—the Rolex 6694 Oyster Precision was frequently seen on the wrists of businessmen throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Its accessible price also made it a popular Rolex collector’s piece to gift a loved one as a way of sharing one’s passion. In fact, this model is often the entry point for many enthusiasts beginning their Rolex collection.
