Open the box and the eye is drawn straight to the bi-colour border, that red-and-white chequered ring that recalls Hergé’s rocket. The anecdote is well known among enthusiasts: in the early 2010s, Omega worked on an official nod to the Tintin universe; the project fell through due to the rights holders’ requirements, but the idea of a distinctive dial survived and led—without logo or licence—to this “Tintin” Moonwatch launched in Basel in 2013. It doesn’t imitate the comic strip; it takes discreet inspiration from it, which gives the piece its uniquely graphic strength, halfway between popular culture and cockpit instrument.

The “Tintin” sits squarely in the line of Speedmaster Professional models—the tool watch certified for manned space flight and a Moonwatch since 1969. It retains the classic Professional architecture (42 mm, lyre lugs, solid engraved back) and adds that instantly recognisable red/white chapter ring. Produced over a short period from 2013 to 2015, with no official numbering, it remained under the radar at launch before becoming one of the most collected contemporary variants of the range. The 42 mm satin/polished steel case keeps the historic “lyre” proportions and is topped by a hesalite crystal that softens reflections on the matte black dial. Three recessed sub-dials organise the chronograph functions: small seconds at 9 o’clock, minutes at 3, hours at 6; the whole is driven by Omega’s hand-wound calibre 1861, a proven evolution of the 861, with 18 jewels, 21,600 vph, around 48 hours of power reserve, magnetic resistance and recognised stability. Baton indices receive a modern luminescent compound, while the central chronograph seconds hand sweeps a black anodised aluminium tachymeter scale. The solid caseback reprises the markings of the contemporary Moonwatch, here with red inscriptions on certain “Tintin” runs—a subtle sign of a distinct identity within the family.

The “Tintin” speaks a dual language: that of a legible, robust professional chronograph, and that of a graphic wink that enlivens the watch without ever distracting it from its function. On a steel bracelet, it remains a “classic” Moonwatch built for daily wear; on a black textile strap, the red-and-white perimeter takes on a sportier relief that evokes space-age posters and the scientific culture of the 1960s. Wear it to drive, to fly, to present a project—or simply to enjoy the play of light on the hesalite: a presence that is both technical and joyful. They are two different watches: the “Tintin” is a non-limited 2013–2015 production; the 2017 “Speedy Tuesday” is a numbered series with a distinct aesthetic.
