Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch chronograph, special edition 2015. Both the front and caseback feature sapphire crystal, making this watch ideal for daily wear without the risk of scratches. These scratch-resistant crystals also reveal the inner workings of the caliber 1863 movement. The Speedmaster belongs to the elite circle of legendary watches, alongside the Rolex Submariner and TAG Heuer Monaco. Its history is marked by extreme records — an iconic NASA watch for the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs, it's one of the few watches to have accompanied humans into space and onto the Moon. Worn by countless pilots, astronauts, actors, actresses, and racing drivers, this iconic model is perfect for those who live to push boundaries.
A collector’s timepiece with a black “tri-compax” dial, its timeless face features 12 luminous Luminova hour markers, framed by a tachymeter bezel mounted on a case with dual pushers. The screw-down caseback has a transparent sapphire insert, allowing the movement to be admired — a trait more often associated with elegant or classic complication watches. The leather strap also gives it a more urban look, suitable for formal wear, yet perfectly aligned with a casual outfit in a more relaxed dress code. This edition, slimmer than the classic model, has often been featured in films and television, particularly worn by actresses. It’s also worth noting that this version offers exceptional comfort on the wrist.
This edition houses the superb Omega C-1863 caliber, a more luxurious version of the C-1861 found in the standard editions. Based on the Lemania 1873 architecture with 18 jewels, Omega added Geneva stripe decoration on the movement bridges. The screw heads are polished to a mirror finish. For greater precision, Omega opted for machined springs instead of wire ones, and factory-set regulation standards comparable to COSC certification. A high-quality rhodium plating gives this movement a far more refined look than those of the classic Speedmaster editions. The movement beats at a rate of six vibrations per second, or 21,000 vibrations per hour, regulated by a Glucydur balance spring — the same material used by Rolex in its luxury calibers.
A highly sought-after and renowned watch since its launch in 1957, the Speedmaster has steadily increased in value on the pre-owned market, nearly doubling over the past five years. Beyond the enthusiasm it inspires and the pleasure it delivers, its acquisition has long proven to be a smart investment, particularly when it comes to special or limited editions.
