cartier's lady-watch bain mini ref 2369. oval-shaped white gold case, screwed back, fluted crown. Cream dial with Roman numerals, quartz movement, blue steel sword-type hands. Pin buckle in white gold signed cartier. An iconic watch from 2003 born in 1958 and baptized cartier bain since nineteen hundred and seventy-three.
The history of this iconic watch is attributed to Louis Cartier who around 1912 worked on a new identity for his rectangular Tank watches in order to feminize them. A. At that time, wristwatches were small and rarely exceeded 15 mm in width with 25 mm at most in height.
Louis Cartier undertook to design a round-shaped case, but the conclusions of his studies were deemed too traditional to arouse the interest and any attraction of the female sex (in watchmaking the round shape remained at the beginning of the century, attached to pocket watches and this shape sticks to a masculine and technical image with railway pocket watches)
Based on the work of Majorelle, a very fashionable designer at that time, Louis Cartier was inspired by Art Nouveau to stretch the proofs of his sketches. This track will lead him to consider the oval shape following the observation of an "octagonal jewel watch" brooch in the setting workshop which is next to his offices.
Louis cartier is going to round the protruding edges of the brooch, there are two parallel straight lines closed by two curves... the final sketch of this research already evokes the shape of a bathtub but history will give it this nickname sixty years later...
The watch presented here comes with its original new strap, which has never been worn. The bracelet is finished with an elegant pin clasp in white gold, branded and signed. This collector's watch is guaranteed for two years. A mostra travel case and a certificate of authenticity complete the set.
