Yema is a French watchmaking house founded in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure d'horlogerie de Besançon. From its inception, Yema positioned itself as a benchmark in the French watch landscape, thanks to its ability to offer timepieces that were technical, affordable, and designed for adventurers across land, sea, air, and even space. The brand quickly gained recognition with iconic creations in diving, motorsports, and space exploration.
In 1963, Yema released the revolutionary Superman, a dive watch featuring a patented bezel-lock system and water resistance up to 300 meters. Used by the French Navy, it became one of the pillars of dive watch history. Three years later, in 1966, Yema launched the Rallygraf, a chronograph designed for motorsport enthusiasts, recognizable by its dashboard-inspired subdials and worn by famous drivers like Mario Andretti.
Yema then expanded into other extreme environments. In 1982, it became the first French brand to send a watch into space: the Spationaute I, worn by astronaut Jean-Loup Chrétien during the Soyuz T-6 mission. Other notable models include the Yachtingraf for sailors and the Flygraf for pilots, showcasing the brand's commitment to accompanying professionals in demanding environments while maintaining a strong and distinctive aesthetic identity.
After a challenging period marked by the quartz crisis and multiple ownership changes, Yema regained its independence in 2009. This marked the beginning of a true renaissance, with the brand embracing its rich heritage to win over a new generation of enthusiasts. Yema relaunched its flagship models in neo-vintage versions that remain faithful to the original designs, while incorporating modern technical upgrades. The development of in-house automatic movements, such as the MBP1000, further solidified its status as an independent French manufacture.
Today, Yema appeals to both collectors and watch lovers seeking authentic, iconic timepieces. Pre-owned Yema watches—especially Superman and Rallygraf models from the 1960s and 1970s—are highly sought after for their rarity and increasing value. At Mostra Store, each watch is carefully selected for its condition, authenticity, and historical significance, offering our clients a reliable and passionate watchmaking experience that's proudly and unmistakably French.
