“Some Rolex watches were born to descend beneath the surface, others to cross time zones or explore the most demanding territories. The Yacht-Master tells a different story. It looks at the sea from the deck rather than from the depths, transforms a functional bezel into a piece of platinum and retains the robustness of the Oyster while embracing a more relaxed form of luxury. It is a watch conceived for open water yet entirely at ease in the city, a sports watch whose elegance comes not from abandoning practicality, but from learning how to combine practicality with pleasure.”
The 2024 Rolex Yacht-Master 126622 occupies a particularly distinctive position within the Rolex collection. It belongs to the Oyster sports-watch universe, with a Triplock crown, graduated bezel, Oyster bracelet and mechanics designed for daily wear, yet it never attempts to reproduce the vocation of the Submariner. Where the latter emerged from the requirements of diving, the Yacht-Master developed a more hedonistic vision of the maritime world: sailing, life on deck, travel, coastlines, nautical leisure and sporting elegance. This distinction is fundamental to understanding the model. The Yacht-Master is not simply a Submariner enriched with precious details; it forms an independent branch of the Rolex professional family, built around a more luxurious relationship with the sea.
Its official history begins in 1992 with the 18 ct yellow-gold reference 16628. The choice was revealing: Rolex launched its new nautical watch not in steel as a pure professional instrument, but directly in precious metal. The Yacht-Master therefore expressed a different personality from the outset. In 1999, the 16622 introduced the concept of Rolesium, Rolex’s name for the combination of steel and platinum. This pairing became one of the historic signatures of the model: steel case and bracelet for durability and everyday practicality, together with a 950 platinum bezel for light, visual texture and a particularly discreet expression of luxury. The 116622 generation later modernised the concept before the 126622 appeared in 2019, notably bringing calibre 3235 and extending the power reserve to approximately 70 hours.
The bezel is naturally one of the defining elements of the 126622. Made from 950 platinum, it contrasts a finely textured matt surface with large raised polished numerals and graduations. Depending upon the light, it can appear almost understated and then suddenly become far more luminous as its relief catches a reflection. Its character is very different from the black Cerachrom insert of a Submariner. The bezel is also bidirectional, consistent with its nautical character and with the use of its graduation to mark different intervals of elapsed time. The Yacht-Master thus demonstrates that functionality can remain intact while becoming an essential part of the design.
The 40 mm Oyster case contributes strongly to the balance of the model. It provides enough presence to remain a genuine Rolex sports watch while retaining proportions that are easy to wear every day. Its screw-down Triplock crown, screw-down caseback and sapphire crystal contribute to a water-resistance rating of 100 metres. This figure is lower than the Submariner’s 300 metres precisely because the two watches pursue different objectives. One hundred metres perfectly suits the Yacht-Master philosophy: sailing, life around water, everyday sporting use and leisure, naturally subject to regular water-resistance testing. It belongs to the sea without pretending to be an instrument for deep diving.
The dial preserves the major Rolex codes of legibility with applied white-gold markers, Mercedes hands and Chromalight display, whose luminescence maintains readability as the light fades. The date at 3 o’clock beneath the Cyclops magnifier also reminds us that the Yacht-Master is intended to live through the entire week rather than serve only one specific activity. In the office, while travelling or on holiday, the calendar becomes genuinely useful. Above all, Rolex retains an immediately familiar visual language: the watch is recognisable as a Rolex within seconds while remaining equally easy to identify as a Yacht-Master.
The three-link Oyster bracelet maintains the same balance between sport and comfort. It uses an Oysterlock safety clasp to reduce the risk of accidental opening and the Easylink system, allowing the bracelet to be extended by approximately 5 mm without tools. This small adjustment becomes especially useful as temperature rises, during travel or after many hours of wear. The Yacht-Master therefore possesses one of the great qualities of the best contemporary Rolex watches: its technical refinements do not attempt to be spectacular; they simply make the watch more pleasant to use every day.
Inside, the Rolex calibre 3235 represents one of the major developments of the 126622 generation. This automatic movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, contains 31 jewels and provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve after full winding, allowing the watch to be removed on Friday evening and remain running through much of the weekend. Its Chronergy escapement improves energy efficiency, the blue Parachrom hairspring enhances resistance to temperature variations and magnetic disturbance, while Paraflex shock absorbers help protect the regulating organ against impacts. Hacking seconds allow precise time setting and the date can be corrected rapidly.
Calibre 3235 also belongs to Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer standard. Beyond chronometer certification of the movement, Rolex tests the assembled watch according to its own criteria for precision, autonomy, automatic winding and water resistance. This mechanism perfectly summarises the character of the contemporary Yacht-Master: its precious materials do not make it mechanically delicate. Beneath the platinum bezel works a movement designed for regularity, robustness and everyday use. The 126622 does not need to be reserved for special occasions; much of its appeal lies precisely in its ability to become an everyday watch.
And it is probably through its uses that the Yacht-Master reveals its personality most clearly. On the deck of a boat, with a polo shirt or light jacket, its nautical inspiration feels entirely natural. With denim and a shirt, it becomes an exceptionally easy sports watch. With a jacket or less formal tailoring, the softer light of its platinum bezel gives it considerably more elegance than a traditional tool watch. It is equally effective for travel: date, approximately 70 hours of autonomy, sapphire crystal, steel bracelet and Easylink adjustment make it a highly rational companion. It is a Rolex sports watch that can be worn by the sea in the morning, in the city during the afternoon and at dinner in the evening without ever feeling like the wrong choice.
That versatility also explains its singular position among the major Rolex sports watches. A Daytona is defined by its chronograph; a GMT-Master II by its additional time zone; a Submariner by diving; an Explorer by the simplicity of adventure. The Yacht-Master contributes something less strictly instrumental but perhaps harder to reproduce: the idea of elegant sport. Its platinum does not turn it into jewellery, while its Oyster bracelet prevents it from becoming a conventional dress watch. It exists precisely in that intermediate space where robustness and refinement no longer need to be opposing choices.
This particular example dates from 2024 and is offered Full Set, complete with its original Rolex environment. On a contemporary watch of this level, that completeness matters: box, card and accessories preserve the documentary history of the example and support its future traceability. Full Set status can never replace inspection of the watch itself, but it usefully complements the coherence of a recent piece. Its year also places it fully within the mature calibre-3235 generation, after several years of production and technical development of reference 126622.
Choosing this 2024 Rolex Yacht-Master 126622 Full Set from Mostra means benefiting from more than forty years of experience in collectible watches, our highly regarded integrated watchmaking workshop in Aix-en-Provence and one of the largest selections of high-end pre-owned watches in the South of France. Our inspection covers the geometry of the case, lugs and surfaces, with particular attention paid to the 950 platinum bezel, whose relief and finishing form an important part of the identity of the model. Dial, hands, Chromalight, sapphire and Cyclops, Triplock crown, bracelet, Oysterlock clasp, Easylink and the coherence of the complete Full Set are also examined.
Our workshop checks the calibre 3235 for rate, amplitude, automatic winding, power reserve, date change and principal operating functions. Mostra’s verified customer reviews carry a 5-star rating, reflecting a relationship based upon expertise, transparency and long-term support. This Yacht-Master is accompanied by a Mostra Certificate of Authenticity and covered by our 3-year warranty, with continued support from our workshop in Aix-en-Provence.
The 2024 Rolex Yacht-Master 126622 ultimately tells a different story about the luxury sports watch. It takes robustness from the Oyster, inspiration from sailing, light from platinum and the convenience of a high-level contemporary movement from calibre 3235. It does not seek to dive deeper than a Submariner or accumulate more functions than an instrument watch. Its talent lies elsewhere: accompanying a life in which boating, travel, work and leisure can all belong to the same day. And within the Rolex collection, this ability to combine the sea and the city so naturally remains precisely what makes the Yacht-Master irreplaceable.
